Obituary of Joseph D. 'Fitzie' Fitzgerald

Joseph D. "Fitzie" Fitzgerald of Buxton, ME, former long-time resident of Woburn, passed away unexpectedly in a car accident November 7, 2017. The loving son of the late Joseph D. Fitzgerald and Helen (Foley) Fitzgerald, he was 61 years of age.

Fitzie graduated from Woburn High School in 1974.

After graduation, needing to spread his wings and travel the country, he followed his favorite band, the Grateful Dead as well as several other rock bands from coast to coast. An avid Red Sox fan, Fitzie never missed opening day at Fenway with his life-long friend. He treasured his family and never missed a holiday with them.

Fitzie was a kind gentle soul with a huge loving heart who would give the shirt off his back to help any of his many friends.

In the summer of 1993, helping a friend with his seasonal business in Naples, he first met Kathy, they remained friends, and in 2004 their friendship blossomed and Kathy became the love of his life, who he would remain with for the next 13 years. Never having children of his own, he was a father figure to Kathy’s three children, Angie, Jim and Michael, as well as a beloved “Papa Fitz” to their children, Bridgett, Katie, Mark, Abby, Emmy and Lil Mikey.

Joseph is survived by his loving sister, JoAnn (Fitzgerald) Davis, her husband Tom Davis, his life partner, Kathleen Chase, and adored by his nieces and nephew, Kathy Plummer, her husband Sean Plummer, Kerri Pattison, Mark Loud and Melissa Langaas, as well as their children, Timothy, Patrick, Jordan, Tyler, Katelyn, and Abby.
