OBITUARY

John C. “Jack” Gardiner passed away at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington on Sunday, October 29th, surrounded by his loving family after a long, hard-fought battle with ALS. Born in Boston and raised in Arlington, Jack was one of two siblings born to the late John and Janet (Crichton) Gardiner. He attended Arlington Public Schools and was President of his graduating Class of 1955. Upon graduation, Jack joined the Marine Corps.

After his honorable discharge from the Marine Corps, he began his 40-year career in banking, where he met the love of his life, Rita Minezzi, who, at the time, was a bank teller. Jack worked in various positions in banking and retired from what was Fleet Bank in 2000, as a vice-president in the municipal finance division.

Jack was a devoted family man and his family was the center of his world. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Rita, and his three children, Donna of New York, John of Northampton and David (Antoinette Merlino) of Burlington as well as his six grandchildren, Isabella and Cole Nowak and Emily, Clarese, Sophia and Tristan Gardiner.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at HealthSouth in Woburn who cared for him over the last five weeks. The family also wishes to thank the entire staff at the ALS Clinic at the VA who helped him adapt to his life with ALS. If not for the constant support from the VA, it would have been impossible for Jack to be able to live out his life at home with his wife. We are forever grateful.

A Funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home 263 Main Street, Woburn on Thursday, November 2nd at 9 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Barbara’s Church, 138 Cambridge Rd, Woburn at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to calling hours in the Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 1st from 4-7 p.m. Interment in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.
