OBITUARY:

Claire (O’Connell) Vasapolli passed away at the Winchester Nursing Center, Thursday, August 10th with her family by her side. The beloved wife of the late Biagio “Gene” Vasapolli, she was eighty-five years of age.

Born and raised in Somerville, Claire was one of four siblings born to the late Timothy and Elizabeth (Wall) O'Connell. She attended Somerville public schools, graduating from Somerville High School..

After high school, Claire was introduced to a very charming young man, Gene, through a very good friend of hers. The dating began, love was in the air, and wedding plans were made! They were married as soon Gene was on leave from the Korean War.

After they were married, Claire and Gene moved to the South End of Woburn. In 1961, they moved to East Woburn where they have made their home for over fifty years. Claire was a dedicated wife and mother. Three sons and a daughter filled their home and between all of their academic and sporting events, they were very busy. Whether it was the baseball or softball field, basketball court or field hockey field, Claire and Gene made every attempt to attend each of their games and cheer them on! Even if their teams were traveling to other states and countries, it didnot deter the Vasapoli's, they were there!

Over the years Claire, if she was not attending any of the children's events and she had time, she very much enjoyed knitting, bowling with friends and family and when she and Gene travelled to Bermuda or every once in a while taking trips out west, stopping in to visit Las Vegas.

In addition, trips up north to Twin Mountain, New Hampshire was a must for Claire and her family. The family gatherings in NH, or in the back yard were always very special to Claire and being amongst her family. Birthdays, holidays or anytime with family was always filled with fun!

A religious woman, Claire went to church every week at St. Joseph’s, and was a very active participant there in the parish. Once its doors closed, she then became a member of St. Charles.

A woman who loved her family unconditionally, Claire will be remembered for her kind and gentle manner, that endeared her to so many.

Sadly, in addition to her husband Gene and her parents Timothy and Elizabeth, Claire was predeceased by her brother Francis O’Connell.

Claire is lovingly survived by her children Ruth McCall, her husband Kevin, Paul Vasapolli, his wife Kathy, and John Vasapolli, his wife Joanne, all of Woburn, Mark Vasapolli, his wife Paula of Hudson and the late Eugene Vasapolli.
