OBITUARY:

Donald Reidy of Boxborough, formerly of Woburn, passed away Saturday morning, June 3, 2017, following a long illness. The beloved son of the late Bartholomew and the late Barbara (Lauzon) Reidy, he was forty-seven years of age. Born in Winchester, Donald was one of seven children raised in the west side of Woburn.

He was educated in Woburn schools and graduated from Woburn High School, Class of 1987, with High Honors. Growing up, Donald was fascinated by movies and the making of movies, and throughout his high school and college years worked at both a movie theater and video store. A very bright, articulate and intelligent young man, Donald double majored in film and geology at Boston University, where he earned his bachelor's degree on a full academic scholarship. After graduating from BU, Donald headed to California, where he worked in film production before returning to the Boston area.

Upon returning to Massachusetts, he worked for a corporate background search firm before demonstrating his entrepreneurial skills in conceiving and launching backgroundferret.com, a consumer-focused online background search company. From an initial idea launched from his home office, Donald grew the business, added employees, and opened an office in Bedford before selling the company when health challenges arose.

Donald was truly a very kind, caring and generous man, with a strong intellect and sharp wit. He possessed a curiosity and thoughtfulness that allowed him to continually find opportunities to connect with family and friends in very personal ways. His lifelong love of film led to many occasions for which he would organize cinema screenings of movies he knew the whole (large!) family would enjoy.

He is lovingly survived by his family Grace Girotti and her husband Robert of New Hampshire; Kathleen Richburg and her husband David of Woburn; Mary Farrell and her husband James of New Hampshire; Barbara Norcia and her husband David of Methuen; Stephen Reidy and his wife Tryphena of Littleton; and Bart Reidy and his wife Carly of Burlington. Treasured Uncle of twenty nieces and nephews and three great nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a large extended family and friends. A Funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn on Tuesday, June 6, at 10am followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Barbara's Church, 138 Cambridge Road, Woburn at 11am. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to call at the Funeral Home, Monday, June 5, 4-7pm. Interment in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.
