OBITUARY:

Marion A. “Mae” (Costello) Severance passed away at her home with her beloved family at her side Monday, May 1st. She was the loving daughter of the late Daniel J. and Irene Etta (Monroe) Costello. She attended Woburn Public Schools and was a graduate of Woburn High School with the Class of 1945.

Mae met the love of her life Bob whom she met through her sister following his honorable discharge from the service. In 1947, they married at Saint Joseph’s Rectory in Woburn. A homemaker most of her life, Mae and Bob raised four children together, three great sons and a wonderful daughter.

Mae was very devoted to her family and friends. Holidays were always very special to the Severance family and other gatherings for birthdays, anniversaries, graduations and weddings were all like Christmas! Summers at their lake home on Baboosic Lake in Amherst, New Hampshire was a yearly ritual and a wonderful place for all family and friends to gather, relax and enjoy. Mae and Bob traveled with family and friends all throughout the U.S. and Europe over the years. Mae was an avid golfer and spent a great deal of time golfing with her sisters and family.

Mae thoroughly enjoyed being in her kitchen and would bake up a storm making wonderful cookies, cakes, breads and surprises for all! She enjoyed playing cards with her friends, working on her puzzles and reading a good mystery book.

Though reserved and shy, Mae will always be remembered for her loving kindnesses and the unconditional love that she had for family and friends.

"Nana" loved being Nana! When it came to her grandchildren whether she was called Nana, Great-Nana, the Nana with white hair or the Nana that winked, she loved it all. Sometimes for a treat, Nana would partake in the festivities of having french fries from McDonald's with all and a little candy!

Sadly, in addition to her husband Robert and her parents Daniel and Irene, Mae was pre-deceased by her son Charles Severance and her sisters Catherine Turner, Irene Donovan and Helen Cogswell.

Mae is lovingly survived by her children, Kathryn Boyd, her husband Richard of Amherst, NH, Robert Severance, his wife Joan of Woburn, Clyde Severance, his wife Janice of Reading. Dear mother-in-law of Barbara Severance of Woburn. Very special Nana to Amy Turner, her husband Paul, Todd Gamache, his wife Betsy, Richard Boyd, Kari Tarr, her husband Kevin, Chad Severance, his wife Catherine, Abby Gillis, her husband Jim, Jamie Severance, his wife Annie, Scott Severance, his wife Katelyn, Julie Tusa, her husband Paul, Mandy Sawicki, her husband Darren, and Susan Machnik, her husband Jon. Proud Great-Nana to twenty great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held, Saturday, May 13th in St. Barbara’s Church, 138 Cambridge Road, Woburn at 10 a.m. Internment is private.
