OBITUARY:

Thomas E. "Tom" O’Rourke of Woburn, passed away unexpectedly and peacefully at his home, Tuesday, April 11th. The beloved husband of Sheila (O'Donovan) O'Rourke, he was eighty six years of age.

Tom was proudly born and raised in Bronx, N.Y. and was the son of the late Patrick and Rose (Curran) O'Rourke. He graduated from La Salle Academy in Manhattan, along with the Class of 1948. Shortly after High School Tom enlisted in the United States Navy, where he would proudly and faithfully serve his country as a Submariner during the Korean Conflict.

Following his years in the service Tom attended New York University. He would graduate with a degree in Electrical Engineering, which was the professional field he served throughout his career.

While working in New York, Tom’s cousin set him up on a blind date with a young lady named Shelia. Well, this was the beginning of a beautiful relationship that spanned over the last fifty-seven wonderful years.

After being transferred from New York to Lexington for work, Tom and Shelia made their home in Woburn, where they would raise their family. Tom worked at Mitre over the years, focusing on microwave communications, eventually retiring from Mosler Safe Company.

The truest highlight of Tom’s life, was his family. Spending time with his beautiful wife, children and adoring grandchildren was always his favorite time! They travelled to West Cork, Ireland as often as they could, as this was an area they so loved! Many, many summers were spent together at their cottage in Dennis on “The Cape”. For years, on the fourth of July the family would journey back to Long Island NY, were everyone would have the opportunity to share stories, happenings and thoroughly enjoy each others company.

Over the years Tom was dedicated Patriots fan, never missing a game on a Sunday afternoon or Monday night! Followed by the Celtics and St. Louis Cardinals, he was an avid fan of all. Tom also was blessed with a wide circle of friends from St. Anthony Parish and the Woburn YMCA.

Tom was a volunteer, along side many of his children, at Camp Fatima - Exceptional Citizens week for 14 years! This camp provided people with disabilities a fun, supported camping experience and provided much needed respite to their families. Tom was especially proud of this organization and the time shared with campers, family and friends.

Tom will always be remembered as a consummate family man, faithfilled, who loved and embraced his wife and children all throughout his life.

Sadly Tom was predeceased by his brother Joe and his parents.

He is lovingly survived by his wife, Sheila (O'Donovan) O'Rourke, his children John O’Rourke, his wife Trish of CT, Mary McCuin, her husband Patrick of Westford, Kevin O’Rourke, his wife Kelly of Wilbraham, Maureen King, of Bourne, and Catherine McLarney, her husband Daniel of Chelmsford. Dear brother in law of Claire O"Rourke of NC. Cherished grandfather of Patrick, Conor, Julia, Emma, Holly, Jenny, Cono, Kevin, Kelsey, Jonathan, Thomas, William, and Michael. A Funeral will be held from the Lynch - Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main St. Woburn, on Tuesday April 18th at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Anthony’s Church, 851 Main St. Woburn, at 10.
