OBITUARY:

Edward “Paul” Carrigan passed away Tuesday night January 31st , after a lingering illness. The loving husband of Elaine B. (Peterson) Carrigan, he was sixty eight years of age.

Born in Winchester, he was the son of Edward J. Carrigan, his wife Geraldine of AZ and Tewksbury and the late Margaret (McLaughlin) Carrigan. Raised and educated in Woburn, Paul as he was called was a graduate of Woburn High School along with the Class of 1966. Paul then headed off to the University of Massachusetts where he attended the Stockbridge School of Agriculture, one of the oldest and most prestigious agricultural programs in North America.

It is there that he met a lovely woman Elaine Peterson, who was also studying at Stockbridge. Being in the same “school” some of their friends decided they really should have a date ! Well, the “set up” by friends happened on the steps of French Hall ! That was the beginning of a life long friendship and a journey as husband and wife for just about fifty years. They were married after they finished school in 1969 and bought a home here in Woburn where they settled in and have established their homestead. They brought three terrific children into the world and just after each, they added a room to their home, to make it a most comfortable place to grow up and call “home.”

Paul began working at Johnson roses where he remained for quite a number of years, Bradco, as a crane operator and for over the last decade at Lowe’s as Manager of Shipping and Receiving.

Two sons and a daughter and he couldn’t have been prouder! No matter what they were involved in academically, socially or athletically, he was there , not missing a beat. Wherever he could help out, he did so, serving as a coach, boy scout leader, park ranger and/or wear any other “hat” that he needed too!

Paul took great pride in his yard and gardening. Being so knowledgeable about the environment, plants etc., Paul would always be moving them around to have them looking there best!

Paul was a man always doing for others. His sensitivity and compassion was always evident and present for relatives, friends and sometimes people he didn’t even know. His compassion was not only for people but animals as well, as he enjoyed his time volunteering at the Woburn Feral Cat Collation.

His family was his world. Over the years Paul remained very close with his parents and all his siblings and their families. Being called “Bampy”/“Grampy” by his dear grandchildren, just added another wonderful dimension to his world.

Sadly, Paul was predeceased by is Mom with whom he shared a wonderful relationship with throughout the years, and just by fate, he passed away on her birthday.

Paul is lovingly survived by his dear wife of forty seven years Elaine, his Dad, Edward of Tewksbury and AZ, his children Craig M. Carrigan of OK, Keith J. Carrigan, his wife Lisa and Katherine "Kate" J. Puopolo, her husband Stephen all of Tewksbury. Dear brother of William J. Carrigan of Woburn, Daniel M. Carrigan, his wife Virginia "Ginger" of NV, David F. Carrigan, his wife Cheryl of Tewksbury and Douglas J. Carrigan, his wife Kimberly "Kimmy", of Carlisle. Cherished "Bampy/Grampy" of Alexander "Zander," Edward "Eddie," and Margaret. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. A Funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, Tuesday morning, February 7th at 9a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Charles Church, 280 Main Street, Woburn at 10.
